DX'ers nightmare 'Home Shopping Club' (Anyone know of a UHF/VHF preselector)

Post by John S. Pinn » Sat, 30 Nov 1996 04:00:00

I am avid DX'er of television. However, I get constant bleed from the
home shopping club's power. Why is it that they can brodcast with this
power?  Does anyone how one can determined if there breaking any broadcasting
rules?

I really wish they would of just stayed on cable, and leave the broadcasting
medium alone.

I am curious does anyone have an design plans or know of a place where
a person can get a preselector for UHF/VHF (television signals). I wish
to boost (and bring in certain) channels without getting another screen
featuring the evil home shopping club.

John:

You must be on the south side of Milwaukee where WJJAs' transmitter is
(in Oak Creek).  As a matter of fact, channel 49 is running well UNDER
the maximum.  I believe that they run about 1.4 Megawatts, and they
COULD run 5 Megawatts.  BUT!!  There is good news for you!

Channel 49 is in the process of moving their transmitter to the north
side of Milwaukee (Near the other stations) and upgrading to 5MW.  So by
spring, you should see better results.

The only things I can think you could do is to get a more directional
antenna, and try to find a Notch Filter that would notch out channel 49.

Good Luck!

You can complain to the HSC station about "blanketing interference".
Theoretically they must provide you with a trap filter, provided you
are sufficiently close to their transmitter to be in the FCC
"blanketing" zone.  Otherwise, build your own trap (a bandstop
filter").
