I am looking for circuit schematics on a basic SW reciever to build with my
son. Does anyone know of a place to get a hold of such a thing.

Check your local RS for a small paperbound booket called "Com-
munications Circuits", by Forrest Mims (there's green printing
on the cover).  There's a schematic for a simple regenerative
SW receiver here that could probably be built completely from
parts that they still carry in the store.

Another alternative is to look for companies like Ramsey that
manufacture kits, and will have a SW receiver kit available.
MFJ sells a regenerative receiver kit as well, though it's a
bit more pricey (I think around $70.00 or so).

Even check your local library for books on electronics; there
might be circuits described in these as well.

I would suggest the ARRL (American Radio Relay League) Handbook.   You can buy
the 1998 edition for $32, or check out an earlier edition from your local
library.  There are many receiver schematics in this book along with lists
of parts suppliers and lots of construction tips and a lot of other neat
information.  I think this book may be exactly what you are looking for.

Good luck, have fun.  Reminds me of when my dad helped me build a crystal set
many years ago.
