I have a PRO-2020 scanner in good working condition for sale for $55
plus shipping or trade for a shortwave radio.

The whip antenna is missing but you can buy another or use the antenna
jack for an outdoor antenna.

I have a working PRO-2020 with an antenna, and I certainly would not
spend $55 to replace it!  Let alone have to pay shipping and buy an
antenna.  It's 15 year old technology!

Being old does not mean bad technology
A R-390 (45 year old technology) will out perform most modern day sets.
If you dont need trunking, or wish to listen to boring cell phone calls any
old scanner is fine.
I have an old Bearcat III that sounds great compared to most modern day
gronky sounding Aisin junk.

Agreed.  But being old does not automatically make it better, either.
For a little more money, you can get a base scanner which is smaller,
covers more bands, and has more channels.  And doesn't have 15 years
of use on it.  Electronics does wear out.

I agree, nothing finer than owning a totally unmodifiable set, a precision
Chinese instrument, complete with the use of masking tape to insulate exposed
connections. This is top notch. To hell with the age when the products were
constructed with enough materials that you could actually carry them across
the room without the chassis flexing.  Yes, these old sets are a nuisance,
they can actually be repaired, (not every function is accomplished by some
gigantic Integrated Circuit, comprising 75% of the radio's functions). And the
old sets had that annoying feature where you could plug the cord directly into
the wall, depriving us of the ability to overburden the real-estate of our
outlets with those decorative wall warts. How stupid those old engineers were.

Don't get me wrong, the new stuff can be packed with features, and even if
initially complex, the features allow much usefulness.  The reliability seems
very high on much of the equipment, minimizing the need for repair.

But the old stuff still has class.

Amen Brother! Today's scanners are the throw away type. I have new ones but
still love the oldies.
Thank God I don't live in a town where I "have" to have a trunk tracker
(yet) just to hear my local police. Any old scanner will do the job.
