Red Wave Radio

Before dawn in Central Ohio on 1210 kHz there's a 100Hz heterodyne
indicating somebody's off frequency.  Among the stations audible
are WPHT 1210 Philly and a bunch of Cubans.

WJZZ 1210 Kingsley Mich. used to be off frequency a lot but I don't
know if they're even on the air anymore.

Other stations likely to be in the mix are KGYN and KOKK but I can't
audibly separate them out this morning.

There's a new station ``News Radio 1210'' in Michigan (to judge from
the news content) but I did't get any station ID, that's probably
the culprit.

It's perhaps they're the old WJZZ 1210 Kingsley MI.

Anybody who can hear WJZZ 1210 in Kingsley MI and has an accurate
receiver, check their frequency for me.  I suspect it's 100 Hz off.

(Simple way, use SSB and tune until it sounds right; do the same
thing on other nearby stations and see if they don't all line up
except for WJZZ as to their frequency offsets.)

WJZZ is 50kw days so a lot of people ought to be able to hear it.

It's a harder test at night.

Yes, they're back on with 10kW last I heard. They've evidently switched to
some kind of talk format in some chain of talk stations. Looks as if they
may try to modify the pattern and increase to 50kW. They're sitting on pure
sand up there (aside from the random barrel of toxic waste) and it has all
the ground conductivity of styrofoam.

As for them being off freq, I'd give the thought a high possibility !
