Red Wave Radio

I'd appreciate learning if the Radio Shack 12-903 has been compared to the
GE superadio and what the results were. The radio shack model is well
constructed and has beautiful sound quality when playing FM music, but
curious about it's ratings.

If you're after AM DX, go with the Superadio III.  The dial markings
are horribly off, but that can be gotten around.  I made a great dial
template on my computer and it's accurate.

There's no doubt the Superadio is tops for MW reception. Getting that old
string tuner mechanism fixed when it eventually wears out is the problem. Gave
a Superadio to a friend about two years ago and he reported the best reception
results. But when the string went, the technician just junked the whole set.
Finallly occured to me then why the Superadio always sold at such a low price,
because it's based on an old dated design.

I tried the new 12-903.  As best as I can tell, it is the old 12-603
in a new case.  In a word, this radio is horrible on AM/MW.  Very deaf.  Could
hear nothing above 1600.  Below 1600, I could only hear the strongest
locals.  Could barely hear anything else, even with volume at full.
Bought and returned 2 samples.  No comparison to the GE SR3, which is
a much better performer and cheaper as well.

I didn't try it on FM.
