What radios would you rate high in MW sensitivity per cubic inch?

Post by Stephe » Tue, 30 May 2006 09:04:27

Here's a slightly different take on the topic of high performance MW
reception...  The smaller the radio, the smaller its ferrite bar antenna
will have to be - so, for a given size category, the high performers will be
the radios with low noise, high gain, well designed circuitry.  There are
probably a number of very good performers out there; by posing the question
in this way, maybe we can highlight the radios with well designed circuitry
at a variety of different size ranges.  (For example, the Degen 1103 might
rate well by this metric since it's both sensitive and compact.)  Even the
Sangean SR-1 might rate well just because it works (and is VERY compact).
Any nominations?
  Thanks in advance,

I'll throw in my Hammarlund 129X with the Heathkit Q Multiplier. It is
amazing on the BCB.

Where they claim:

=========================
It fits in your shirt pocket or clips neatly to a belt enabling you to
enjoy the audio portion of your favorite AM talk show
=========================

I hadn't realized there was MORE than the audio portion of my favourite
AM talk show. I now need a set which will receive what I've been
missing. All these years I've been content, but no more...

What radios would you rate high in MW sensitivity per cubic inch?

The old radio in my old van quit working over three years ago.I don't
want to fix it because driving and listening to the radio makes me
nervous.I quit toting when I got out of the Army in 1965.I only go to
the foodstore (a round trip of three miles) once a week or to the
Goodwill store (a round trip of about one and a half miles) several
times a week,sometimes I miss a week or two going to the Goodwill
store,so I dont miss radio all that much when I am out and about.

Dont get one that dosen't have enough cubic (square feet is much better)
inches and dont use lithium batteries,or it might burn your house down.

Inch for inch, the Sony SRF-M97 has to take the prize, as it's barely
larger than the battery that powers it, and has excellent sensitivity.
