Hello Group,
I was wondering if there's anyone on, that regularly does shortwave
listening in the Syracuse NY area. I'm leaving for there tomorrow, to
visit a few days from Southern California, where I normally listen to
SW. I'm bringing an Yacht Boy 400 to use. What interesting would you
suggest to listen for, that I might not receive here, SW or BCB?
TIA,
Mike

If it were me, I would aim for European broadcasters in the late
afternoon to mid-evening hours.  You should have a lot of good luck
with the 49, 41, and 31 meter bands.  Some easier stations to pull
in will be the BBC at 5975, 6175, or 9590, the Voice Of Russia at
7125 (Spanish 0000-0100, Russian 0100-0300, English 0300-0500(?)).
There will be lots of other European stations here as well.

You might also want to aim for Radio Australia on 9580 from 1200-1400
or so.  If conditions are good, you might find RA or Radio New Zealand
on the 16m or 13m bands in the late evening (the sunspot cycle is on
the way up now).

Evening BCB targets would include WLW in Cincinnati (700), KYW in
Philadelphia (1060), and you should be able to pull in Imus from NYC
(WFAN, 660?) in the morning.  You might also want to try for Canadian
MW stations, CBC and all that, since you probably don't hear those too
often in southern CA.  Also don't forget to scan the expanded band in
the evening (1600-1700KHz).

C.K.

Christopher,
Thanks for the info, I'll use it when I'm in Syracuse.
