I've had both. It's not even close to the Sony 2010!

No synch detection, which is the whole point of the 2010.

I have the radio shack version of this, and it's the one radio I've refused
to part with over the years.

You're right, it's better.

If that's what you want a radio for.  Since there is a rapidly
declining number of HFBC stations available I judge radios by their
utilitiy utility.

Care to explain? In my opinion, the Sony 2010 tunes SSB signals MUCH easier,
like a tabletop. The DX-440/Sangean ATS-803A is really frustrating to
bandscan with.

The Sangean is much more rugged, has better audio, and feels more like
a radio.

The front display panels on them Sangean radios are real good at going
out.

Mine has been powered on since I bought it, turned off only by AC power
outages, so that's more than a decade (lost track of when I bought
it but it was when universal radio was at their old Main Street location).

One power outage required removing the batteries for a day to recover,
but otherwise it's perfect.

It's in effect an FM speaker for the sound that the computer pumps into
a FM transmitter downstairs, is the reason it's just left on.
