Red Wave Radio

I listened to SW for 20+ years now and feel that it is finally time to
treat myself to a quality reciever.  I want to make the most appropriate
choice.  I live on the WEST coast and usually listen to standard
broadcasts only ie BBC, etc.  I like the DRAKE R-8 and the LOWE-150 as
they are in my price range.  The DRAKE is no doubt a better reciever, but
I like the compactness of the LOWE.  Any considerations??

Also where would be a good source for these radios??

   Well I dont think I can really tell you which to buy, but if you go
through the back of the Popular comm.  mag you will find ads. that you can
call and they will send you free info. on their line of products.  That's
all the help I think I can give you.  Good luck on catching some nice DX

By the time you stack the HF150, the PR150, and the SP150 you aren't so
compact anymore.  See the ad on page 57 of January "Popular Communications"
magazine.  These accessories aren't needed with the R8.  The only thing
I added to mine was the VHF converter which goes inside.  If you really
want a compact radio get the SW8.  The Lowe is well built and solid and
a good radio but I don't think you can beat the R8.  My $.02.  73

I strongly suggest that you consider the Lowe 150.  I have owned both (and
a lot more) and the 150 is the most enjoyable listening radio I have ever
owned for general purpose listening.
