For One and All,

With-Respect-To : IBOC AM Radio -vice- AM Radio DXing

As part of the DX Radio Community 'we' may not like IBOC
{High Definition} "HD" AM Radio Broadcasting and the
resulting adjacent Channel Noise that it will create;
that will make AM Radio DXing [Distance AM Radio Listening]
very-very-hard-to-do or completely impossible.

- - - B U T - - -

For the Owner's of AM Radio Stations IBOC AM Radio is a
valid business decision with respect to 'their' Local
AM Radio Markets and the Local AM Radio Listeners
that 'they' hope to attract as Listeners.

Commercial AM Radio Broadcasting in the USA is "About"
Local Business Marketing -via- Radio within a City/Town,
Area or Region to 'reach' Local Radio Listeners.

DX {Distance AM Radio Listeners} are Not part of 'their'
Commercial AM Radio Broadcasting Business Model [.]

IBOC AM Radio and DXing - Three Things To Remember :
First - 'we' {DXers} are few
Second - They {Local Listeners} Are Many
Third - The Bottom Line = It's About Busine$$ !

for what it's worth - that how i see it ~ RHF

 RHF,

This is a false assumption - with the United States AM stations being
spaced 10 Khz apart, IBOC will only have minor effects on the 50K watt
clear-channel stations.  The digital part of the IBOC is included in
the stepped-up sidebands, but drops off/fades, unlike the main analog
lobe:

This doesn't make a*** of sense...

IBOC will destroy what's left of analog radio.

I don't think that a business model that exchanges current listeners for
the "hope" of attracting new listeners that require them to buy new more
expensive radios is a good plan.

Once everyone is IBOC, the hash heard from any less than ideal location
will probably lead to XM sales. The destruction of the educational
portion of the FM band to religious scam artists is enough to make me
get XM just for travelling. One year's XM fee is like a tank and a half
of George Bush priced gasoline.

DE,

The claim is that the High Cost of Fuel is currently due
to the Growing Economies of China and India and their
demand for Energy (oil) to Fuel their Expanding GDP.

So - When you buy something Made in China or India
the Money goes around the World and Buys another
Barrel of Oil on the World Market that drives-up the
Price of Fuel Around the World.

Telamon,

Current 'local' Listeners can still use their good old
Analog AM and FM Radios to "Hear" their 'local'
Radio Stations - For 99% of the Local Listeners
Nothing Changes [.]
- - - And with Time Everything Changes.

The DXer Is Not By Definition A "Customer" Within
The Local Listening Market -and- Only Listeners
within the Local Listening Market are Customers.

OBTW - If IBOC like AM-Stereo fails.  - For 99%
of the Local Listeners Nothing Changes [.]

Interesting comments, however I really couldn't care as
most of the programming on AM radio here is either:

1) Reactionary "Talk Radio" with all it's forms of political bullshi+
2) Spanish speaking stations what play that marichi-band or similar
annoying music 24/7 and use reverb/echo boxes for speech.
3) Religious stations what have programming ranging from the 2nd
AME Church of the Obese Singing Welfare Queens to Brother
Stair who comes on at 2 AM with his unique brand of bile.

They can have their HD Radio. It's all the same bull***that's now
sent to you via "Digital Hi-Fidelity" which is an 1st order oximoron.

The only POSSIBLE BRIGHT SPOT on the AM radio dial is here:

Radio formats are not, per se, reactionary. They are determined on the basis
of what will get the most listeners. For example, in Los Angeles, there are
about 6 shares of listening for conservative talk and less than a half-share
for liberal, left of center talk.

Quote:> 2) Spanish speaking stations what play that marichi-band or similar

Mariachi music is a tiny part of the so-called regional Mexican format. A
mariachi is a mariachi. The name means a type of band. So "mariachi band" is
redundant.

And the reason why you have Spanish language formats on AM is that the local
AMs can not make money any other way.

Quote:> 3) Religious stations what have programming ranging from the 2nd

Well, strike two for you. You called Mexican music annoying, and now you are
making fun of religious programming. while you may not like any of this,
others do. Who are you to impose your taste on anyone else. The reason why
there are many stations is so that there are choices.I'll bet I do not like
your favorite music styles, but I do not begrudge you the right to have some
station serve your tastes.

And I would bet you hav enot listened to an HD station, AM or FM. They sound
considerably better than analog, in fact.

You are very good at "Ready, Fire, Aim"
