Holy SHEET!! For that price, I would be able to deliver it PERSONALLY,
including the plane trip stateside and back. I've seen these go for as much
as $800 in the past, but never anything like that..

Wow, that's crazy. I gotta call a friend of mine and tell him he should
have put his new looking one on ebay instead of selling it at a hamfest
last year!

I really don't get the price at all, I wasn't really impressed with it
the couple of times I played with one. I would pass on one at one third
that price.

Well, I think that seller's overly eloquent description reeled in a few
fish.  If you search for Grundig 650's, you seldom see one going for
over $600 these days.  It's an interesting radio with rich sound for a
tabletop, and that servo controlled preselector makes for some serious
eye candy, but overall I'd say the performance is fairly ho-hum.

I think I'll file that seller's description away for a year or so, then
use it for selling mine.  The seller is probably laughing his way to the
bank!

It looks like he really hit the jackpot. I've hit some smaller "huh?"
type jackpots selling stuff on Ebay, but nothing like that. I bought a
"dead" R71A a few years back, and had it going in about 20 minutes, all
it was was a bad ground. I washed the top and bottom case halves in my
dishwasher to get most of the smell of tobacco out of it (Didn't work,
but helped, and made it look great), and took the front panel and washed
it in some mild soap and water. When it was done, it looked great, and
smelled tolerable. I touched up the alignment, and kept it for a few
months, and then put it up when there were only a couple R71As up for
auction, and only one had the FL44 filter it had in it, and sold it for
almost $200 more than I paid for it. I made about a hundred on my Yaesu
FRG-7700, when I sold it, and I used it for 2 years. The only thing I
did was wash the case, and replace the volume pot, as it was crackling
all the time. I cracked open the pot, and it was totally worn out, and a
really junk pot besides.

I was bidding on a gun auction once, and it was totally out of control.
I could buy a new one, in the box, for almost $100 less than the two
year old one up for auction. A few days later, I bought an even better
looking gun of the exact same model, for over $200 less than the other
one went for. When I bid on something, I know what it's worth, and go no
higher than what I want to pay, sometimes I lose, sometimes I win, but I
don't go nuts.

My best deal ever was a vacuum desoldering station, barely used, for
$25! Including shipping. A new one goes for almost $300. I couldn't
believe nobody else bid on it. It sure came in handy when I had to
change about 40 caps out of an old Kenwood TS-850 I got super cheap.
