WANTED: Comments on ICOM R1 vs Yupiteru MVT-7100

Post by Scott Ehrli » Mon, 03 Jan 1994 13:32:27

Since I believe both radios tune from 'dc to daylight', I thought it
would be appropriate to cross post to each newsgroup.

Anyway, could people PLEASE e-mail me all reviews, comments, personal
experiences - anything you can on the above mentioned radios.

I will post a summary if I get enough replies.

Thanks much!

Scott

There is no comparison one is the best handheld around and ... the other
is the worst.  (BTW the AOR 1000XLT falls between the two)

The R-1 has one thing going for it: coverage
The R-1 has too many negatives.  These include:
poor selectivity
poor sensitivity
the only way to get MW LW SW reception is with a long whip (easy to find)
poor software scheme; logic has no place here
buy the optional pack for disposable batteries, you'll need it!
the paint soon will chip off of the back
the belt clip cannot be mounted with the original plastic screws

btw, do you want to hear the really bad points?<G>

What the world needs is a unit which is the size of the R-1 and the per-
formance of the R-7000.
