Sangeans Zapped By Static Electricity

I have a Sangean ATS-808 (DX-380). I have zapped it twice with
static electric charges. Had the first one for 6 months. Then
when the weather turned cold, and we got static electricity
built up going across the carpeting, I zapped it. Sent it to
Sangean (it was under warranty) They replaced it. I zapped it
within two days of receiving the new one. Since that time, I
have been verrrrry careful using it in cold weather. At least
one of the times it was zapped I had an external antenna
attached through the ext ant jack on the radio.

Sangean claims they do not have a problem with static
electricity. Their service man told me that they do.

THE COLD WEATHER IS COMING.

However, I also have a Radio Shack DX-370 (ATS-800). I've had
it for several years, and not had a problem with static
electricity. Of course this radio does not have an external
antenna jack.
