the three new sangeans are now for sale on ebay and the major SW
dealers. they don't look too impressive for the money compared to some
of the chinese portables like the PL-200 and DE-1102 but who knows ?????

$147 "buy it now" price for the PT-80.
I would be hard pressed to come up with
a reason to buy Sangean at prices like that,
when I just got a DE1102 for $68.50 delivered.
Without having seen a review I will venture
a guess that the PT-80 is a good radio, based
on the description and my experiences with the
Radio Shack labeled versions I own.
But I can't see me ever paying that kind of
money again for something I can obtain that
is comparable and less than half the price.

Just my 2 cents.

I agree with Sanjaya, the Kaito SW radios, while
not perfect, have set a price/performance ratio
that's hard to beat in today's receiver market.

I can remember when the Grundig YB 400 sold for
$250, the Sangean ATS 606 was $200, and so on.

One of the things that I've always liked about
Sangean is that when they release a new product
it is well thought out, sturdy, and have fewer
problems out of the box.

I agree..
Why is this radio better than the DE1102; and at over twice the price ??

- What makes it better from a performance / Useability or design standpoint..

This radio (model 1102) show to be SSB capable.

Will they receive SSB or LSB with the fine tuning or does tuning HAVE to
support LSB/USB for reception?

The tecsun radios i have are great but they still aren't as good as my
5 year old sangean ATS-909.  It's actually a radio shack dx 398.  The
tuning knob when you're on LSB or USB sometimes skips way ahead or
tunes backwards which is a major pain in the butt.  I just use the
arrow keys and fine tune the USB by trial and error.  The speaker too
is a little hard sometimes to hear speech.  I need to run it into an
external speaker.

You can demodulate LSB or USB transmissions by adjusting the main and SSB
"fine tuning" controls on the Degen/Kaito 1102. It takes a steady hand,
but does not drify appreciably once you get the right spot.

I might get the Sangean PT-80. It offers two of my favorite features: a
tuning knob and one-touch memories. I already own a Sangean 909, which I am
very happy with, and this may be a nice companion. I'll wait and see about
its sensitivity. If it equals the 909, then I'll order one for sure.

Thanks, that may help me with my decision on the DX398/1102
